FOUNDER

ELLEN SLATER | LICSW, YT-200
I am passionate about deconstructing our current cultural paradigm of stress and over-stimulation. Throughout my career I have trained with renowned researchers and experts in the field, such as Kristin Neff, Tara Brach, Bonnie Badenoch, and Bessel van der Kolk. I have traveled extensively into non-industrialized countries to learn mindfulness teachings from indigenous communities. Through these experiences I have built an evidence-based model called The Compassion Cultivation Cycle™. This model decreases self-criticism and increases self-worth, it dismantles limiting beliefs and builds an internal dialogue and bio-chemistry that promotes growth, values based living, and authentic self-expression. The modalities and teachings I engage are as follows: Mindfulness, Yoga Philosophy, Ecological Healing, Christian Mysticism, Contemporary Psychology, and Neuroscience. Integrating these tools I apply empathy and acceptance to our very human experience.

Ellen has the ability to blend a variety of historic teachings with a modern point of view. Her lessons have helped me stay present in my life - no matter what is happening around me.

The Brick & Mortar

A Space Designed With Head & Heart

Head & Heart was founded in 2019 as a space to spread the teachings of mindfulness and compassion. Through 20 years of studying mental health, 14 years studying yoga, and her own personal journey, Ellen discovered time and again there is a deep underlying insecurity in the human experience. It’s what Ellen calls The Deficit Mindset, a belief we are operating at a deficit, not enough as we are.

Ellen founded Head & Heart for the purpose of offering accessible healing to community and a space for providers to share their unique gifts. We are a cooperative space where health professionals from all disciplines offer classes, workshops, and retreats to support wellness. Our offerings utilize evidence based ancient healing as a means to shift our biochemistry, increasing harmony from the inside out. Our Offerings give you the tools to live a life in line with your values, cultivating compassion and courage in the midst of busy lives.

The Brick and Mortar of Head & Heart is located in a restored building in the beautiful mountain town of Winthrop, WA. Nestled in the treetops on the second floor, surrounded by light, Head & Heart is a space to gather and learn the latest research and the oldest traditions. Learn about upcoming programs here.

An INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM OF PRACTITIONERS

Jessica Peterson | Integration Life Coach

Integration Coaching explores your future goals to reveal past emotions that are blocking the expression of your full potential. Cognitive neuroscience has discovered we are aware of only 5% of our mental activity, leaving 95% influencing our thoughts and behaviors unconsciously. Integration Coaching illuminates these patterns in a gentle and supportive process, which leads to exposing unconscious beliefs and habits impacting your experiences. This style of coaching is an empowering process that fosters personal awareness and expands your capacity to build your envisioned future with courage, groundedness, clarity, resilience, joy, and creativity.

Jessica is certified through the Wayfinder Life Coach Training Program by Martha Beck. She supports individuals navigating a range of life struggles, ongoing inner work, and overall personal development.
