Intro to Devotional Singing

SUNDAY MARCH 01

9:30-11:AM

WITH TANIA GONZALEZ ORTEGA

In this 90 minute workshop you will be introduced to Devotional Singing and why it can enhance your spiritual practice. You will learn how Devotional Singing can calm the nervous system, still the mind, and create space to dive into your heart; connecting to the divinity within you and around you. Singing in a group can create positive transformation from the inside out. We will delve into the science of sound, words, and intention.

You will experience call and response Devotional Singing while accompanied by the harmonium. Tania will lead you through songs which are fun and easy to learn. You will experience first hand what happens when these songs are sung for extended periods of time. You may also experience how singing devotional music can sublimate negative emotions and give rise to heart opening release. You will leave with copies of music to take home with you so that you may begin to include Devotional Singing in your practice, as well as resources if you would like to dive deeper into the practice.

Tania Gonzalez Ortega first began practicing Devotional Singing (Kirtan) in 1999 when she served as a full time yoga teacher and staff member at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta centers in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Grass Valley where devotional singing was part of every morning. Tania is passionate about spreading this practice as a form of connecting to the divine within, and our interconnection with all beings. She is an artist, teacher, and energy healer living in Twisp, WA.
