Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a 3rd Wave cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that has a strong evidence base. The multi dimensional nature of ACT is effective for a wide range of presenting issues. This transdiagnostic approach offers many powerful tools for clinicians. In order to be effective, however, selecting the right intervention is essential. Intervention selection includes assessing which core therapeutic process needs attention and then tailoring the intervention as needed. This introductory workshop will incorporate an overview of the evidence base, theory, and core processes that make up ACT. Through interactive lecture, experiential practice, and mindfulness exercises this training will illuminate ACT concepts, teach specific interventions, and ready the clinician for immediate application.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Describe the evidence base and core processes for ACT. Develop skills in intervention selection, through the lens of the ACT. Take away several versatile interventions that promote psychological flexibility.
